Engine 49 Straight Rye
Many ryes on the market are made with the minimum 51-65% rye. It’s a pain to ferment, an expensive grain, and overall a gloopy, gloppy nightmare. The lower rye content made for a harsh profile, that we weren’t fans of. Skeptical that we’d ever release a rye whiskey, we found in recipe development that a higher the rye mash, between 95-100%, balances the traditional spice and heat, with a dark maple, caramel sweetness found only in rye.
The goal in our ryes to find balance between strength-sweet-bitter-spice. Making a great bottle for classic whiskey cocktails, particularly where you want a bit more warmth.
